The Tour

Discover Sarek National Park with Us! This unique nature reserve is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Laponia and one of the last (almost) untouched national parks in Europe.

You won't find the continuous infrastructure typical of hiking areas here. In pathless terrain, you will traverse the mountain landscape with your experienced and local guide, wandering through dense forests and seemingly endless river landscapes. In a small group of no more than six participants, we will become part of the surroundings, learning to move through the landscape with respect and caution with every step.

It’s a unique adventure where we only have what we carry on our backs. Our motto: take only what is absolutely necessary! Experience what it means to reduce gear needs to the absolute minimum.

With us, you’ll take off! We start our hike spectacularly: with a helicopter flight into the national park, dropping us in the wilderness. From above, we get a sense of the boundless expanse and fantastic scenery—and now it’s up to us to find our way back to civilization under our own power.

Want to learn more? Then write to us or call us. We are always available via WhatsApp or email. We’ll tell you more about this adventure and you can ask all your questions. Of course, this is free of charge!

You can also find a lot of information about gear in our FAQs.

We look forward to hearing from you!

Reisebeschreibung

Itinerary

The itinerary described here is schematic, and for organizational reasons, the content and route may change. The helicopter flight will either take place at the beginning of the hike (we will be flown into the national park) or at the end (we will be flown out of the national park). In the latter case, the hikes will occur in reverse order.

DAY 1

ARRIVAL (Saturday) Upon your arrival at Lulea Airport, we will pick you up and drive to the nearby cabin village, just 5 minutes away. There, you’ll meet the other participants, and we’ll spend the evening making final preparations for the trip. A shared dinner will round off your first day of travel.

DAY 2

TRANSFER & FIRST HIKE (Sunday) We’ll leave Luleå early and drive to Jokkmokk (approx. 2 hours). During a brief stop at the Sami Museum, you’ll gain an initial insight into the life and culture of the indigenous people of this culturally rich region. After a cup of coffee, we’ll continue to Kvikkjokk, the starting point of our hike. Upon arrival, we’ll store our extra luggage and take a helicopter* into the national park. That evening, we’ll begin our first short stage of the hike before setting up our tents and ending the day with a shared dinner cooked on a camping stove. *For organizational reasons, the helicopter flight will either mark the start of the hike (flying into the national park) or its conclusion (flying out of the national park).

DAY 3

DAY 1 (Monday) At first light, we begin preparations for departure: we have breakfast, take down our tents, and pack our backpacks. Today’s stage takes us along the Vássjájahka river toward Njoatsosvagge. This is an exciting and scenic route that will challenge us but won’t push us to our limits on the first day. We’ll have time to get accustomed to hiking with our backpacks and plenty of opportunities for breaks and photo stops. In the evening, we’ll set up camp by a beautiful mountain lake and enjoy a refreshing ice bath.

DAY 4

DAY 2 (Tuesday) Today's hike takes us along three breathtaking mountain lakes. Along the shores, we'll have to navigate through a lot of rocky terrain, and some ascents await us. We will end the day with a challenging river crossing, where we’ll finally put our water shoes to use. Shortly after, we'll set up our tents and enjoy the peace and seclusion of nature. In the evening, we’ll learn how to make a fire in this environment, and if the weather is good, we can wrap up the day with a cozy campfire atmosphere.

DAY 5

DAY 3 (Wednesday) We’ll start today with exercises in navigation and orientation in the terrain. Before setting off, we’ll determine our route and practice navigating through the increasingly dense forest along the riverbanks. Today’s itinerary also includes several river crossings, which will require us to take off our shoes multiple times. At the end of the day, a spectacular waterfall awaits us, where we’ll set up our tents on its picturesque banks.

DAY 6

DAY 4 (Thursday) Today’s stage is the last within Sarek National Park, and we’ll savor the spectacular mountain views one more time — wilderness in every direction. This is highlighted by another thrilling river crossing. In the evening, we’ll set up camp at the edge of the forest, at the base of the mighty Pårtejället mountain, and enjoy a cozy campfire.

DAY 7

DAY 5 (Friday) Our penultimate stage is a long one — thankfully, our backpacks are lighter by now. Ahead of us lies wonderful terrain. We’ll delve deep into dense birch and spruce forests, traverse marshlands, and, of course, cross several streams and rivers. Shortly after setting out in the morning, we’ll visit a very old research station built by Axel Hamberg in the 19th century, located on the edge of Sarek. We’ll spend the night somewhere along the famous Kungsleden long-distance trail, which we intersect as our journey nears its end.

DAY 8

DAY 6 (Saturday) Our final day consists of a short stage on the Kungsleden trail, bringing us to Kvikkjokk by midday. Here, we’ll visit the old wooden church, take a leisurely stroll along the riverbank, and after about two hours, begin our journey back to Luleå. We’ll spend our last night together in a cabin, enjoying the luxury of a warm shower. Over a shared dinner, we’ll exchange memories and bid farewell to Sapmi — the land of the Sami.

DAY 9

DEPARTURE (Sunday) After breakfast, you’ll head directly to the airport (transfer included) or continue your journey independently. We say: Thank you!

Requirements

The requirements profile for this trip is high. We intentionally call it a hiking expedition, as it resembles an expedition in several aspects and cannot be compared to a hiking tour where, for example, an exit is possible at any time and a warm cabin awaits in the evening. This journey aims to demonstrate how little is needed to undertake a hike and how much more can be experienced as a result. It is a true adventure where we want to motivate you—under expert guidance—to push your personal limits.

The elevation gain and daily kilometers are not the main focus of this tour. The challenges lie in carrying the backpack and hiking in the pathless terrain, where we often have to forge our own way.

Therefore, you should have a good base level of fitness and be capable of independently carrying a backpack weighing approx. of 17 kilograms (unless you choose to travel Premium). Additionally, a certain level of resilience to withstand wind and weather conditions is advantageous. In September, you benefit from being spared the dreaded mosquitoes, but it can rain frequently, and temperatures at night can drop to around 7 degrees Celsius. Isolated snowfall is also possible. Keep in mind that you will be spending all nights (regardless of weather conditions!) in a tent, except for the arrival and departure days.

However, more than just the hardships, we want to show you the benefits of this journey! Alongside plenty of physical activity, you will have an extraordinary hiking experience in a small group of like-minded adventurers. You will expand your survival skills, learn navigation techniques, and experience nature away from mass tourism in breathtaking surroundings, creating an unforgettable experience!
