GUIDED TAMADABA HIKING – HIDDEN TRAILS AND THE TRADITION OF LA RAMA

San Pedro – Starting Point for Guided Tamadaba Hiking

In the northwest of Gran Canaria, not far from the fishing village of Agaete, lies the quiet village of San Pedro at the end of the valley. This is also the starting point for our guided Tamadaba hiking tour. Known for its coffee plantations, introduced by returning Canarian emigrants from South America, San Pedro is above all a place of peace, silence, and authentic mountain atmosphere.

La Rama – The Tradition Behind the Hike

San Pedro has long been known as a starting point for hiking to Tamadaba. During the historic festival of La Rama (held every year on August 4th), pilgrims still follow the hiking trail into the mountains towards Tamadaba. Following an ancient tradition, people ask for rain, honor the Virgin Señora de las Nieves, and celebrate through the night with joyful Canarian spirit.

What to Expect on a Guided Tamadaba Hiking Tour

Our guided Tamadaba hiking tour also starts and ends here. Depending on weather conditions and group composition, your guide may choose to slightly adjust the route. This allows for longer, shorter, or more adventurous variations.

All routes to the Tamadaba Plateau share one highlight: breathtaking views over the Agaete valley and the Atlantic Ocean. Throughout the day, you will also enjoy stunning views of Mount Teide on Tenerife – one of the most iconic highlights of guided Tamadaba hiking.

Why Choose Guided Tamadaba Hiking

The Tamadaba Plateau is a vast, continuous forest area with many hidden treasures: secret caves, spectacular viewpoints, old water reservoirs, and the remains of a former scouting camp.

A visit to the summit of Tamadaba (Pico de la Bandera, 1,444 m) is also possible and offers impressive panoramic views over the island.

Local Guides für Local Experience

Our guide has lived on Gran Canaria for years and knows every corner of the pine forest. He is also highly familiar with the region’s rapid weather changes, ensuring you get the best possible experience during your Tamadaba hiking adventure.

In addition, your guide knows the island from a climbing perspective. Tamadaba offers one of the largest continuous sport climbing areas on the island, with routes in the ravines and along the slopes of the plateau.

Enjoy the Perfect Ending to Your Hike

Every guided Tamadaba hiking tour ends with a visit to Santi’s coffee finca. Through our long-standing friendship, we and our guests learn everything about coffee cultivation on Gran Canaria.

During a tour of this small private plantation, you will discover different plants and enjoy a tasting of local products – including, of course, freshly grown coffee.

Discover Tamadaba – Guided or on Your Own - final thoughts

A visit to the pine forest of Tamadaba is always worthwhile – whether as a guided Tamadaba hiking tour or independently. It is the perfect destination for a full-day adventure.

Overnight Stay in Tamadaba

This is also possible with us: extend your Tamadaba hiking experience and spend a night under the stars – in a tent or hammock. Just get in touch with us, and we will take care of the permits and organize this unforgettable experience for you.

Important Planning Tips

Always keep an eye on the weather and the latest forecasts. Especially during the warmer months on Gran Canaria (May to September), you should plan your day carefully and bring enough water and food. There are no places to buy food or water along the route.

If you plan a loop hike, keep in mind that public transportation in this area is very limited or nonexistent. This may result in long return walks on dusty rural roads.

Why Guided Tamadaba Hiking Is the Best Choice

With our guided Tamadaba hiking tour, you don’t have to worry about logistics. Just lace up your hiking boots and join us – discover the magic of Tamadaba.

As the pilgrims of La Rama say: “It is not just a path – it is a feeling.” 🌿
